Rates for Solid Waste & Recycling Collection

Stockton City Council approves the garbage rates and adjustments. The City's two franchised waste haulers – Republic Services and Waste Management – are authorized to charge the current garbage rates for all residential and commercial customers.

Annual Rate Increases and Adjustments

The City's contract with the waste haulers allows for an annual rate adjustment equal to 50% of the change in the Consumer Price Index (CPI) over the previous one-year period.

  • For 2017, the calculated CPI was 2.68%. All garbage and recycling service rates were increased by 1.34% effective June 1, 2018.
  • Thirty days prior to the increase, Stockton residents and businesses will receive written notice of the rate adjustment.

Billing for Solid Waste Collection Services

Residential customers are billed monthly for garbage and recycling services, based on the size of the garbage cart.

  • Use this rate schedule to view rates for each cart size and service.
  • 60-gallon cart for recycling and 90-gallon cart for green/food waste provided at no additional charge.

Residential customers with questions about their garbage service charges should contact their service provider. Use the City's About Your Address feature to see which company handles your service.

Commercial businesses are billed directly through their service providers.  All billing questions should be directed to the appropriate service provider.
